UCI Math CEO (Community Education Outreach) is a math enrichment program that invites UCI undergraduate and graduate students to be mentors to middle school students from Santa Ana. The program develops a fun and rigorous mathematics curriculum that taps into students' critical thinking skills. Not only does the program give access to new ways for students to approach math, but exposure to higher education, and a mentor that supports them.
I served as a mentor in the program in Fall and Winter Quarter of 2017, and Spring Quarter of 2018. As a mentor I was able to work with a group of students. I was able to develop a lasting relationship with these students. In Fall Quarter of 2018, I began working for the program as a Learning Assistant and joined the leadership team. As a Learning Assistant, I helped with curriculum development and implementation, leading meetings, moderating groups, and supporting mentors. In the summer of 2019, I worked as a Research Assistant, developing educational materials that will be used to train mentors for upcoming years. (Material Available Here). As a high school teacher, I brought UCI Math CEO to my school's campus and became a special advisor in planning and helped to develop and implement the curriculum for the high school program, which connected undergraduate and graduate students and professors as mentors to high school students in San Diego and Orange County. Notably in the past two years, I've helped to design and navigate projects with the program. Mentors and mentees codesign a project and present to a panel at the end of the year. |

I served on the UCI Calteach Advisory Board for two years. As a member of the advisory I served as a board member and as the Social Event Planner. General board member duties included attending meetings and Calteach events and supporting current and prospective students. As Social Event Planner I planned and coordinated events for Calteach students to create a sense of community in the program. |
